Fresh off the double Grammy boat, Kendrick Lamar’s already put himself in the running for next year’s awards with this intrepid backlash at assertions that he was ‘selling out his race’ with his comments about the Ferguson killing. Spitting fire over Boi-1da’s visceral production, Lamar defends his African-American cred and tackles racism with a fury unmatched as yet for as long as we can remember. The final half-minute shifts unexpectedly from a raw boom-boom-bap into some form of Snarky Puppy groove that we’d like to hear more of before fading. Is there a sequel to this fantastic diatribe?
