After The Phone Number, People Are Now Sending Money to The Bank Account Shown in Squid Game

There’s one show everyone is talking about right now and that’s Squid Game on Netflix. Twitter and Instagram are all over it, critics are backing it as the next big thing and everyone else is confused as to whether this show is actually about squid or not.

Spoiler: it’s not.

While we’ll leave you to it in regards to the plot-line, Squid Game’s director Hwang Dong Hyu said that people have been sending money to the bank account number shown on the show.

According to allkpop, the director spoke about topics related to his latest masterpiece in an online interview which also brought up the recent issue.

“The account number belongs to one of the producers on the show. We made an agreement with the directing team and used it. I heard that producer has been receiving deposits in the amount of 456 won (RM2) from people who watched the show,” he explained.

Hwang Dong Hyuk also stated that the production team used the account number with permission but have decided to close that account in case there are any issues – well, like this! – in the future.

In the interview, the director even spoke out about the phone number that was used in the show.

ICYMI, a Korean man who used that phone number received thousands of text messages and phone calls, interfering significantly with the individual’s daily life. The phone number is also a business number that was used for a long time so it can’t be easily changed.

“We used that number because we were told it was a safe number to use but the producers didn’t expect the number to work if you put in the 010 area code in front. We’re very sorry we did not check that in detail. I know the production team is working to properly compensate that individual. We are going to take responsibility for it until the end,” Hwang Dong-Hyuk said.

Luckily for the phone number owner though, a South Korean presidential candidate has offered to buy it off his hands for 100 million won (roughly around RM300,000).

In related news, Squid Game is currently on track to become the biggest non-English language Netflix series as it ranks number 1 on Netflix in over 90 countries. Time to binge-watch, my Gganbu!
