Meat from Horses, Kangaroos & Even Diseased Animals Sold as “Halal Beef” for 40 Years by Cartel

More news is surfacing in regards to the fake halal meat-syndicate earlier this month and it seems like the syndicate involves more than one frozen meat warehouse.

According to NST’s latest exposé, the frozen meat imported by the cartel from non-certified countries is not limited to pork and beef, but also includes horse meat and kangaroo meat. As for the beef itself, it usually comes from animals of poor quality or even diseased, so it is obtained at much lower prices.

“The cartel buys the meat at up to 50 per cent cheaper than meat obtained from certified slaughterhouses and processing plants. The meat would then be shipped to Malaysia and ferried out via trucks and lorries to cartel warehouses,” said a source to NST.

Upon arrival in Malaysia, the items would then be mixed with beef and repackaged with the halal-logo in warehouses nationwide run by the cartel before being sold to unknowing suppliers.

The source also said that by doing this, the cartel profited from avoiding taxes and duties as well as the costs involved in the halal-certification process.

What’s shocking is that these activities had been going on for about 40 years. The cartel mainly got away with it as senior officers from no fewer than four government agencies are believed to be working hand-in-glove with them.

These senior officers, entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that halal standards are upheld, have instead received money, and in some cases even women for sex, as bribes in order to turn a blind eye to the cartel’s operations as well as ensure that its activities go undetected.

While we’re unsure which senior officers are involved, we know that Jakim and the Veterinary Services Department are the ones responsible for the certification and quality of the imported items.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Department of Quarantine and Inspection Services, Royal Customs Department and port police are in charge of managing the supplies once it enters Malaysian ports.
